National Experience Week runs from 11th to 17th April this year. It is still a fairly new awareness week so don’t worry if you’ve not heard of it before.
We think this is great as is supports and recognises the fact that giving someone a completely unique experience is something which will be remembered and cherished forever.
We at What IReally Wanted truly believe that it is experiences that make people happy. So, to be able to gift that to someone is very special. There have been many studies on what makes people happy and the consensus is that while we buy ‘things’ to make us happy, they do for a while, but we adapt to them so they just become the norm and don’t bring any long term happiness. This can be backed up by Dr T Gilovich, who conducted a psychological study, stating that ‘…money buys happiness, but only to a point’. He then goes on to explain that ‘people’s satisfaction with the things they bought went down, whereas their satisfaction with experiences they spent money on went up.’ And this is backed up by psychologist Matthew Killingsworth who sums up happiness as ‘moment-to-moment experiences.’
National Experience Week is about making the lives of those you love and care about more fun and interesting. We all know it’s better to give than to receive. What could be better and more rewarding?
So how should you celebrate this week? By giving someone a gift they will always remember and get lasting happiness from
