Have a break. Have a staycation.

Make the most of your precious holiday time and discover what’s on your doorstep!

There are a few reasons why you might be looking to go abroad for a short break… sunshine, sand and duty free… but there are plenty more reasons as to why a break within the UK offers you the chance to get a quick fix of relaxation… and, with it being on your doorstep, there’s no reason why you can do it a little more often!

Ok, so the weather. It is one of the most popular topics of conversation amongst us Islanders and we are bordering on being a nation obsessed by its variety and unpredictability. It is though, what makes our green and pleasant land, and without going into the meteorological reasoning behind why it is so variable (something to do with the Gulf Stream, Europe and the North Pole) why not embrace it. As the great Alfred Wainwright said, “There’s no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing.”

With spring comes summer and on the whole we can look forward to a happy mixture of longer, warmer days and a splattering of bank holidays. With five of our precious eight for the year coming between Easter and August, this is the season to explore the hidden treasures on your doorstep. Dust of the road atlas, or tap into Google Maps, and plan your next short trip for a long weekend.

From the trusty favourites of the Lake & Peak District, the Cornish coast or the Outer Hebrides (ok, maybe a little longer travel time required) we are so fortunate to have many natural wonders on our doorstep. Having said that, it doesn’t need to be an escape to the outdoors to admire the natural scenery of course. Perhaps some indulgent me-time in a relaxing spa is more your thing. Why not try a new restaurant or challenge yourself on a new golf course. The important thing is to make the most of an extra day; recharge the batteries and enjoy spending time with friends and family.

One thing you can be sure of… they’ll be no airport check-in, lost luggage, currency converting or wondering where you left passport… and the best bit… you can do it whenever you like.

Take a look at our map and search tools to plan your next escape.
