The sweet taste of the vineyard…

If you think this hotel’s name is nothing more than a quirky link to a hint of some vague association to wines, then think again. Whilst the vines may not be visible on site here, The Vineyard’s extensive cellar holds over 30,000 bottles, a fair few of which are Californian award winners, including a unique collection from their own flagship home estate Peter Michael wines.

With a 3,000 bin list and over 100 wines by the glass, there is certainly a wine for everyone.

The Vineyard styles itself as a ‘restaurant with luxury suites and a spa attached’ and takes it’s inspiration from the vineyards of California. Created around a nineteenth century hunting lodge, the building was developed as a country house hotel in the 1980’s and was extensively renovated before its’ opening eighteen years later as a luxury hotel, spa and restaurant.

There are 49 individually-named rooms, over half of which are suites, all designed by Emily Todhunter and each bearing the name of a wine label. The Grand Suites – Mon Plaisir and La Carriere offer a stylish combination of four-poster beds, elegant bathrooms and spacious sitting rooms.

The Vineyard Spa is the perfect place for a spirit-lifting experience. As one of the most highly-rated spas in the UK, awarded “5 Bubbles” by the Good Spa Guide, it offers an oasis of tranquillity.

As an enthusiastic patron of the arts, Sir Peter Michael believes that music, painting and sculpture enrich the world we live in. Which is why guests at The Vineyard can anticipate a feast for the eyes while enjoying fine wines and exquisite food. Guests will not miss the hugely captivating painting, ‘After the Upset‘, commissioned by Sir Peter Michael to commemorate the day the wine world changed forever. It depicts the famous blind Judgement of Paris wine tasting where Californian wines were chosen over France’s very best. It takes centre stage at The Vineyard and provides the perfect backdrop to the impressive 880 bottle glass-floored wine vault.

This is one hotel which is best enjoyed now, and for many years to come.
